Eastgate is Salamonis’ oldest district, full of historical signifigance and, unfortunately, the poorest members of the population. Sitting between the Dead Quarter and Little Rock districts, Eastgate, as the name suggests, lies along the Eastern city wall and surrounds the little used Eastern gate of Salamonis. Eastgate boasts many of Salamonis’s earliest buildings and shows a good deal of interesting architecture, however as newer, more modern buildings were erected in what is now the wealthy districts of Salamonis fewer and fewer people actually lived in Eastgate. Eventually, the district had an abandoned, run down feel to it as the racial and cultural groups who had lived here created their own, distinct districts.
With most land trade heading either North or South, to Shae, Port Blacksand and Salamon’s other settlements, the Eastern gate was, and still is, little used by merchants. Instead it is used by those shadier elements of land traffic, adventurer’s, smugglers and refugees. Lots of these travellers, especially during the many turbulent chapters in Salamonis’ past, simply moved into Eastgate’s abandoned buildings on arrival in the great city. The Capitavirate rulers had more to worry about than squatters in a run down district so Eastgate became a home from home for gangs and tribes of both humans and monstrous races, a warren of shanties, hideaways and secret tunnels. Even after Taiyend became Governor his promises to the city’s Liel, which had won thier support against the Capitavirate, saw much of the rebuilding budget spent on creating the new district of Southgate. Again, Eastgate was ignored.
Today Eastgate remains Salamonis’ most destitute and dangerous district. Mercenary companies, goblin gangs, Liel terrorists and rogue Pariahs all make thier lairs here. Almost all of Salamonis’ gangs also have a presence alongside honest citizens who are simply stuck in lives of near abject poverty.
